Ellen Furey is an artist based in Montreal, Canada. She works with a range of makers including Daniel Léveillé Danse, Dana Michel, Montréal Danse, Fréd Gravel, Nicholas Cantin, Benjamin Kamino, Christopher Willes, Amanda Acorn, Simon Portigal, Robert Abubo, Susanna Hood, Marten Spangberg, Adam Kinner, Alicia Grant, Anouk Thériault, Winnie Ho, Wants and Needs (Sasha Kleinplatz and Andrew Tay), Stephen Thompson and Malik Nashad Sharpe. She spent three transformative years as a company member in and out of Dancemakers (Michael Trent, Benjamin Kamino, Emi Forster, Amelia Ehrhardt).
Her work has been supported by The Current Sessions (NYC), Usine C (Montréal), Dancemakers (Toronto), Studio 303 (Montreal, forthcoming), Hatch 13/ Harbourfront Centre (Toronto, forthcoming) and Artscape’s Gibraltar Point through the support of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. Upcoming performances include: First Thursdays at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto (February 2nd, 2017) Kinetic Studios, Halifax (March 18th-19th 2017) and Theatre La Chapelle, Montréal, in collaboration with Malik Nashad Sharpe (London/NYC) (2017-18 season).
Ellen co-runs Dance Danse Révolution -with dance artists Anouk Thériault, Leanne Dyer and Melina Stinson- a tiny, event space for experimental dance practice and discourse in Montreal’s Mile-Ex.
